Daniele Lorio, Soprano

Soprano Daniele Lorio has sung Ida in Die Fledermaus, Susan in A Dinner Engagement, Saffi in Zigeuner Baron, Psyche in Princess Ida, Gianetta in LʼElisir dʼAmore, Nora in Riders to the Sea, Celie in Signor Deluso, Venus in Orpheus in the Underworld, and Melpomene in the world premiere of Magnum Opus, Vitellia in La Clemenza di Tito, Queen of the Night in Magic Flute, and La Cenerentola’s Clorinda with Washington Concert Opera.  As the winner of the 2007 Edvard Grieg Competition, Ms. Lorio travelled to Bergen, Norway and sang in the famous Grieg Hall as a part of Bergenʼs annual international music festival. While there, she also sang a recital at Bergenʼs Rekstensamlingene. She has also appeared in recital at Strathmore Mansion in Washington DC, as well as the Brownsville Museum of Art, where she collaborated with sculptor George Lorio in a concert entitled Waves of Form and Voice. She has also appeared in concert with One World Symphony in New York City singing Medora in Verdi’s Il Corsaro and Elettra in Mozart’s Idomeneo. Regionally, she has been the soloist in Beethoven’s Mass in C Major with the Chesapeake Concert Choral, Mahler’s 4th Symphony with Chevy Chase Chamber Music, in Poulenc’ Gloria, as well as Brahms Requiem with 21 Voices Chamber Choir. Daniele has been called, “an exceptional dramatic soprano with superior acting skill,” with, “great promise for her on the operatic stage”. Anne Midgette of the Washington Post calls Lorio, “both physically and vocally sensual” and describes her as having a “big sweet sound”, with “full blown sensuality and a full blown voice”.
